Online Pedagogy Series/The Art of Online Discussions
Wednesday, October 12, 2016
12:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Laughlin Music Hall/CCPS Conference Room
Description: The nature of an asynchronous online discussion differs from a live discussion in a variety of ways. Online discussions take place over a period of days or even weeks as compared to 30 – 90 minutes in a traditional classroom setting. This time difference means that feedback and exchange of ideas is not immediate, and keeping participants engaged can be a challenge. This presents instructors with a variety of challenges from setting specific goals for the discussion, planning a strategy for instructor participation, and the promotion of engagement across the discussion. Participants that attend this training will participate in an in-depth examination of the construction of an online discussion, and this practice can be employed across every type of learning activity or assignment online to ensure high quality and engaged learning.
