When Chatham University was founded in 1869, women did not have access to quality higher educational opportunities. While women now outnumber men in many college classrooms, they still do not have political, economic, or social equality. What is the status of gender equity today? And what is Chatham University doing through its new Women’s Institute to promote women’s leadership?

Jessie B. Ramey, Ph.D. is the Director of the Women’s Institute and Associate Professor, Women’s & Gender Studies at Chatham University
