2018 Women Candidates of PA
Party Affiliation: Democrat
Madeleine Dean got her start in politics during dinner table discussion with her family while she was growing up. She was elected to serve as a local committee-person at 18. After graduating from law school, Dean practiced law with the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers and served as the executive director. Then, she opened a small, three-woman practice, and worked as in-house counsel for her husband’s business. Mad changed career paths and taught English at La Salle University for 10 years, before serving as Township Commissioner. In 2012, Madeleine was elected to the state legislator. Since her election, Madeleine has been an outspoken member, championing progressive priorities like funding public education, combating addiction, supporting equal rights, expanding access to healthcare, ethics, pushing criminal justice reform, and reducing gun violence. Back home, Dean has worked closely with local officials to bring millions of dollars in infrastructure projects that promote safer, more livable, and greener communities to the area she represents.
