Campus Events

On-campus events with public (non-Chatham community) attendance will not be allowed from June 2020 through March 2021 (this will be revisited in January 2021).  

Student and academic on-campus events with no outside public attendance are permitted as long as they follow campus health & safety protocols, group event attendance limits (Chatham, state or county requirements) and record attendance.  

Wherever possible, recorded or real-time virtual attendance options will also be provided for those who cannot attend in person. 

Additional guidelines and protocols for campus social events are below.  

  • Social event spaces will be chosen according to reduced event occupancy guidelines to ensure that the room chosen can accommodate guests with social distancing.  
  • Chatham and Allegheny County guidelines limit indoor and outdoor social event attendance/size.
  • Attendees must check in via an app (such as ChathamU or Slate), online form, or sign-in sheet. 
  • Masks must always be worn in indoor events. Masks must also be worn at outdoor events when physical distancing of at least 6 feet is not possible.   
  • Event seating and lay-outs options are designed to ensure physical distancing.   
  • Given the current County and State mask guidelines, catering will not be permitted at indoor events in order to ensure that masks are worn at all times. 
  • Event staff and guests are encouraged to utilize the sanitation stations located in each building to sanitize high touch areas before and during events.

Outdoor Ceremony Exemptions

Use of Chatham's campus by outside groups for small, outdoors-only religious or commemorative ceremonies (e.g., next to Chatham's pond) are allowed if the following requirements are met: 

  • Outdoors only.
  • Participants must follow all Chatham University guidelines, including wearing face masks and practicing social distancing, at all times.
  • Outdoor ceremonies must be in groups of 25 or less and no more than 20 minutes in duration.
  • Complete a written request that details the nature of the ceremony, the number of participants, social distancing measures in place, campus location, and time of ceremony on campus. Contact Adey Yilma at ayilma@chatham.edu to start the request.
