This page contains information on "what to do if" sick or identified as a close contact of someone positive for COVID-19.

For Students

Follow these steps to help keep yourself (and our community) healthy and safe. 

If you have cold or flu-like symptoms or have been identified as a close contact of a positive COVID case, below are the steps you should follow to schedule and receive testing:  

  • Make an appointment with Student Health Services by scheduling online or call 412-365-1714. Testing is available Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to Noon.  Appointments must be scheduled in advance. 
  • When it’s time for your appointment, go to the two tents set up outside of Student Health Services at the back of Woodland Hall for check-in.  Please bring your student ID. Proper masking protocols must be followed. 
  • A trained test provider will administer the test, which involves putting a swab in your nose. 
  • After the test, it will be taken into the lab for processing. You will be directed to the second tent, where you can wait.  Processing and results take about 15 minutes. 
  • Student Health Services will provide you the results and directions for next steps, based on your specific situation and test results. 
If you get tested off of campus, fill out this form. It will be filed confidentially, and then contact tracing can begin.

For Employees

COVID-19 testing through Student Health Services is only open to students at this time. Employees should reference the instructions above, and follow the guidance and direction of their medical provider for testing and their medical needs.
When you contact Human Resources to let them know that you will be receiving a test, they will send you this form. It will be filed confidentially, and then contact tracing will begin. 

Frequently Asked Questions

Technically, you do not have to start quarantining or get tested until you are told that your friend or colleague tested positive for COVID. That said, to be on the safe side, you may want to quarantine or work from home until the test results come back.

Yes, you are still considered a close contact if you spent 15 or more minutes within six feet of your friend whether you were masked or not.

They follow the same protocols. Chatham uses “quarantine” to refer to someone who is a close contact of someone who has tested positive, and “self-isolation” for someone who has tested positive or is displaying symptoms of COVID.

No, if you are self-isolating or under quarantine, you may not leave the space provided to visit friends, walk around campus, or for any other reason.

Chatham’s primary method of testing provides results in 15 minutes. If you test negative, but continue to experience symptoms, we have a backup test the results of which are available in 2-4 days.

Chatham uses physical distancing in classrooms to keep students and faculty six feet apart. That being said, there may be situations in which you might be considered a close contact. If that’s the case, a contact tracer will get in touch with you.

If you live on-campus, you will be moved to a single room. If you live off-campus, your roommates should also quarantine.
