Telling Your Story: A Skillshare about Citizenship and Climate Justice // Cuenta tu historia: Taller Skillshare sobre Justicia climática y ciudadana

Have you experienced the impacts of citizenship-based discrimination or oppression? Have you experienced the impacts of climate change? Have you experienced both? Have you taken action to address citizenship or climate justice?

Come learn how to tell your story creatively from a spoken word artist in this interactive workshop. You’ll also learn how to build out a climate story from the Alliance for Climate Education. This workshop is meant to prepare participants for the opportunity to share their story, live or recorded, during the “Story Slam: Citizenship and Climate Justice” happening virtually on April 29th from 6:30-8:00pm.

This event will be a conversation and will include time for participants to share work they create in the session with each other. Please come prepared to have your camera on, audio unmuted, and to be fully engaged! We can’t wait to hear your story.

Nigel S. Richardson

Nigel S. Richardson is a writer, filmmaker, and educator based in Richmond, VA. Nigel graduated from the University of Miami in 2017 with a B.S. in Communication, Motion Pictures. He then went on to join the Peace Corps, serving in Rwanda for two years teaching English as a Foreign Language and further pursuing his passion for education and working with youth and young adults. He currently works as Special Assistant to the Creative Director for the Afrikana Independent Film Festival which is a festival dedicated to showcasing the cinematic works of people of color from around the world and places a special focus on the global Black narrative. He also works as an administrative support specialist for various cultural arts organizations in the Richmond area. Through his work with Afrikana and other arts institutions in his hometown, Nigel is using his love for storytelling to help elevate, celebrate, and further validate stories of the marginalized and underrepresented.


Cristo Paz, Alliance for Climate Education

Cristo Paz is a writer, MC, and founding member of the hip hop duo Browns Crew. A native to Milwaukee’s South Side the neighborhood’s sights and sounds and his Mexican American upbringing inspire the stories he tells and the music he creates with Browns Crew. Cristo is also actively involved in working toward creating a better Milwaukee; catch him at public forums, working with youth, at community rallies, and facilitating or participating in workshops.


Moses Wamalwa, Alliance for Climate Education

Moses recently joined ACE as a Youth Organizer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He primarily will be focused on delivering climate education through the “Our Climate Our Future” assembly and working to mentor and empower young climate leaders and activists in the form of the Action Fellowship. He has more than 8 years’ experience as an educator, mentor and coach and will work to ensure that the youths have the education and space to have their voices heard, especially in the voting booth. Moses has lived in three different countries and four different states. Kenya where his family originates, Rwanda where he served two years in the Peace Corps as a Teacher and Youth Organizer and America where he has spent most of his life. This has given him an appreciation for the rich tapestry of humanity's cultural differences, but this has also made him deeply aware of the injustices present in our lives.


Clare Drobot

Clare Drobot is currently the Associate Artistic Director at City Theatre, she joined the company as the director of new play development in March 2015. Prior to that, she was the resident dramaturg/producing associate at Premiere Stages, the professional theatre in residence at Kean University. Clare has worked in various capacities at Williamstown Theatre Festival, The McCarter Theatre, Play Penn, The BE Company, Laura Stanczyk Casting, and New Dramatists. Her work as a writer has been seen at venues including Ars Nova’s ANT FEST and the New Hazlett Theatre’s CSA Series (with composer Nathan Zoob). She is a Carnegie Mellon graduate with degrees in music composition and creative writing, and a member of LMDA.

Este taller está abierto a cualquier persona de 14 años o más (adultos incluidos), pero el concurso de la historia tendrá narradores con un límite de edad de 14 a 20 años.
