Costs & Aid

Read on to find out how cost and financial aid will be affected during the 2020-2021 academic year.  

Tuition

As Chatham is preparing to provide quality and personal academic instruction through a mix of in-person, virtual, and online courses, there will be no reductions in tuition costs for the 2020-2021 academic year. 



Housing

There will also be no changes to housing costs for the 2020-2021 academic year. Room charges are not being increased for the dedensification (i.e., triples becoming doubles or doubles becoming singles). In addition, there will be no reductions for those who move out at Thanksgiving or additional charges for those who need to stay during or after Thanksgiving or over Winter Break.  

In the event the university must close the residence halls and terminate a housing contract or lease before November 23 due to a public health crisis, like COVID-19, students would be expected to vacate housing by a set deadline the Office of Residence Life provides them. Chatham will offer pro-rated room and board credits/reimbursements for impacted students as appropriate and based on available information. This applies to students living in on-campus housing and students placed in leased off-campus apartments at 600 South Highland and 6236 Fifth Avenue. 


 

Meals

Meal plans give students great flexibility in choosing the number of meals they will need for their time on campus. Students not remaining on campus after Thanksgiving break should consider this when choosing their plans. In addition, new offerings are being included this year that provide students the ability to use meal plans for groceries, online ordering, and usage at local venues like Hello Bistro, The Porch, and Eat ’n Park.

Campus & Parking Fees

There will be no changes to campus fees for the 2020-201 academic year. If the University is required to shut down in-person campus operations and shift to virtual instruction for more than is currently planned, some fee costs may be revisited.

Parking passes may be refunded upon return of the parking pass to Facilities. You can receive a full refund up to September 18, and a partial refund prorated on days used afterwards (including if the University is required to shut down in-person campus operations and shift to virtual instruction for more than is currently planned).


 

Spring 2021 Term Refund Period Extension

We are extending the withdrawal refund period for students who decide to withdraw from the University for any reason. This extension applies only to students who withdraw completely from the University and does not apply to schedule changes through the add/drop process. The refund policy for Spring 2021 is as follows:

  • 100% refund for those who withdraw on or before January 22nd
  • 50% refund for those who withdraw on or before February 1st
Housing refunds are also being extended:

  • 100% housing refund for those who choose to move out on or before January 15th
  • For those who move out after January 15, the refund will be prorated based on the number of days in residence.
Meal plan refunds are as follows:

  • 100% meal plan refund if not used for those who withdraw on or before January 15. If used, meal plans will be prorated based on usage.
  • After January 15, meal plans will be prorated based on days on the meal plan.

 

Fall 2020 Term Refund Period Extension

We are extending the withdrawal refund period for students who decide to withdraw from the University for any reason. Here’s what that looks like:

  • 100% refund for those who withdraw on or before September 4th
  • 50% refund for those who withdraw on or before September 18th

Housing refunds are also being extended:

  •  100% housing refund for those who choose to move out on or before September 4th
  • For those who move out after September 4th, the refund will be prorated based on the number of days

Meal plan refunds are as follows: 

  • Meal Plans will receive 100% refund, if not used for those who withdraw on or before September 4. If used, meal plans will be prorated based on usage.
  • After September 4, meal plans will be prorated based on days on the meal plan. 

 

Extending Financial Aid 

In light of the disruption COVID-19 is causing on campus this year, Chatham is making it easy and seamless to attend Chatham for another semester by offering automatic extended merit- and need-based financial aid for a ninth semester for all full-time undergrads enrolled this academic year. Here’s what else you need to know:

  • This option is available to all undergraduate students enrolled in the 2020-21 academic year.
  • Courses must be related to degree requirements for current major, minor, double major or change of major in order to meet federal and state aid eligibility.
  • If interested, you should discuss an academic plan with your academic advisor and then the Office of Financial Aid.

 

Financial Aid Change of Circumstance

If a Chatham student has experienced a reduction in income, change to employment, or increase in expenses that directly affect the student’s or family’s income and ability to pay for education, please contact the Office of Financial Aid today to discuss options for qualifying for more Chatham, federal and/or state aid through a Change in Circumstance filing. Student Emergency Fund

The Chatham University Student Emergency Fund is provided through the generous donations of University students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. This aid is for limited, short-term, financial assistance when students are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of temporary hardship related to an emergency situation. Please submit the Student Emergency Fund Application. Someone from the Office of Student Affairs will be in touch to confirm receipt and provide follow-up information.


 

The CARES Act

The federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act provided money through the Higher Education Emergency Relief fund to colleges and universities to distribute emergency grants to eligible students disrupted by the Coronavirus Pandemic in the Spring of 2020. Learn more about the CARES Act at Chatham.


 

FAQ: Cost & Aid

On-campus residency requirements for Chatham have been waived for the 2020-2021 academic year. This includes scholarships which require on campus residency.
Yes. Funds designated for on-campus housing are only available for on-campus housing. If you choose to live off-campus or at home for the 2020-2021 academic year, your financial aid package will be adjusted and the housing waiver/scholarship removed.
