Christine M. Tartaglione

State Senator Christine Tartaglione is a lifetime Philadelphia resident, and in 1994 became the fifth woman State Senator. In 2010, she became the first woman elected to Senate Democratic Leadership when she was chosen Caucus Secretary. Now in her fifth term, she is Democratic Chair of the Labor and Industry Committee, and serves on the Law and Justice, Democratic Policy, and Rules committees. Before her election, Tartaglione served as assistant to Philadelphia City Councilwoman Joan Krajewski. Later, she worked as Senior Executive Assistant to State Treasurer Catherine Baker Knoll. Her commitment to working families led to her position as Business Representative for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. In her tenure, State Senator Tartaglione established a minimum wage increase, helped create the Office for People with Disabilities, protected health-care employees from mandatory overtime, and prevented attacks on public transit workers, among many other impressive achievements.
