Physical Therapy Program (DPT)
Our Mission
The Chatham University Physical Therapy Program educates Doctors of Physical Therapy who will advance the quality of human life through excellence in clinical practice. The Program prepares professionals to meet the challenges of a dynamic health care environment and supports faculty scholarship that bridges science and practice.
Entry-Level Doctor of Physical Therapy Program
Chatham University's entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program is a clinical doctorate degree designed to prepare graduates for practice in physical therapy following the successful completion of seven terms of study. The DPT program stresses clinical decision-making through the study of patient problems typically encountered in the clinical setting. The modified problem-based learning curriculum presents physical therapy in an integrated manner organized around body systems. The curriculum stresses the importance of evidence-based practice and professionalism in all student learning experiences.
Sawhney-Gough Clinical Excellence Scholarship
In 2017, DPT alumni and faculty, Raj Sawhney and Steve Gough, created the Sawhney-Gough Clinical Excellence Scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recognition and financial assistance to a second-year Physical Therapy student at Chatham University's School of Health Sciences. Students must meet GPA requirements, be members of the American Physical Therapy Association, and submit an essay discussing the importance of clinical communication, professionalism, and service activities. Applications are accepted during the fall semester of the second year in the program.
Dr Sawhney and Dr. Gough have committed $5,000 per year, which will be combined with matching contributions from alumni to award a scholarship of up to $10,000 annually. Students are emailed scholarship information and application instructions once they become eligible, which is during their second year in the PT program.
