The Rachel Carson Digital Library CollectionThe Rachel Carson Digital Library Collection contains photographs and select documents digitized from the Rachel Carson Collection housed in the Chatham College Archives. Throughout her life Rachel Carson was dedicated to Animals and Nature. In this collection you will find images that depict Rachel Carson's childhood at the Carson Homestead in Springdale, Pennsylvania where she lived with her family and attended Springdale Elementary School and Parnassus High School (1907-1924). The collection also documents her enrollment and campus life at the Pennsylvania College for Women (PCW), now Chatham College, through snapshots and photos from the PCW yearbook The Pennsylvanian (1925-1929). Carson was actively involved in Sports and Recreation at PCW, and was a member of the championship Field Hockey Team in 1928. This collection also features photographs taken throughout Carson's career as an environmentalist and author (1930-1967). You will find photographs of Carson performing her Field Research at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Pennsylvania and Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory in Massachusetts. You may also browse images of the covers of Books and Monographs by and about Rachel Carson, including The Sea Around Us(1951) and her landmark work, Silent Spring (1962). The collection also includes images of Awards, portraits, and memorials of Rachel Carson including the 1952 National Book Award Ceremony, the Rachel Carson Homestead, and the Rachel Carson College at SUNY, Buffalo (1968-1990).You may browse the collection by clicking on View the Collection.
