Program Agenda

On this page, you can find the agenda for the Sustainable Summer: Immersive Environmental Day on June 27, 2024.

What to Expect

Please note that no experience or special skills are required to participate in these immersive learning experiences. Come with good footwear, clothing that protects your legs from ticks and scrapes in the forest, and a willingness to get your hands a little wet and a little dirty.

8:30 a.m.—Arrive at EBC

Check-in and brief orientation.

9:00 a.m.—Streams, Fish, and Clean Water

Sitting at the highest point in Allegheny County with important creek headwaters and booming development around us, learn how Eden Hall is conserving water resources and improving local fish populations. You might get a little wet with experiments in our aquaculture lab, but you’ll come away with a better sense of Pittsburgh’s most important natural resource issue: water!

10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.—Forest Hike & Plant Discovery

The 250-acre Eden Hall Forest is home to varied forest communities and many challenges that face forests throughout Western Pennsylvania – invasive species, overabundant deer, and climate change. Explore the forest, learn to identify plants (both with and without an app!), and discuss approaches for improving forest health in a changing world.

11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.Food, Farm & Community

Food and agriculture are a cornerstone of human society and vital to fostering a better future for people and planet. Join Falk School faculty and students to explore the connections between Eden Hall’s organic farm, cooking and preserving food, and fostering community. Engage with our agriculture production spaces, connect with current Chatham students and faculty in our teaching kitchen, and enjoy a community lunch.

12:30 p.m.Program Ends

Feel free to linger over lunch or spend more time in the forests or fields at Eden Hall!
