Calculations for Measures
Measure |
Description and How It Was Calculated |
Retention |
Formula: The retention rate is calculated by dividing the number of second-year students who returned in Fall 2023 by the number of students who returned in Fall 2024. Example: In Fall 2023, there were five new full-time students in a program cohort. Four students from the 2023 cohort returned in 2024. Retention rate is 4/5 = 80%, attrition rate is 1/5 = 20% |
Graduation Rate |
Formula: Total number of graduates divided by the total cohort number = graduation rate. Undergraduate Example: There were 10 new first-year students who started in the Fall 2019 cohort. Eight of them graduated from Chatham University. Graduation Rate = 80% Graduate Example: 20 students started the MBA program in Fall 2019, and 18 students graduated from the MBA program. Graduation rate = 90% |
