Food and Racial Justice Discussion Group

Friday, November 6, 2020

Zoom, Link Provided On Registration

Cost: Free

During the month of October, learn more about food systems and social justice. Then, join a discussion group with other people your age. Open to all!

This is an experimental study group that doesn't have one shared book. You choose what you read or watch! Here are just a few suggestions:
* Choose a selection of articles related to food justice and racism
* Read The Color of Food, Farming While Black, Stamped, Food Justice, White Fragility or The Color of Law
* Watch excerpts from the documentary "Race: The Power of an Illusion" on YouTube
* Read documents related to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Action Plan

We're focusing on race oppression this month. This means we'll be reading more about food apartheid and how our communities are designed to withhold food access along racial lines. You can choose to read more about food systems and intersectional social impacts by citizenship, gender, ability, class, religion, age, sexuality or any other identity.

As you read or watch, find a way to take action in your own community and come ready to talk about it!

Come prepared to talk about:
• What did you read, watch or listen to this month to increase your personal learning?
• How are you now taking action (or committing to taking action) based on what you learned?
