Scholarships give Chatham students the opportunity to become the leaders of tomorrow, and capital gifts for construction and educational experiences are an investment in Chatham's visionary future.

Endowed Student Scholarships

Endowed scholarships have long played a vital role in Chatham's history, enabling students to pursue their educational goals, regardless of their financial situation. Nearly 100% of Chatham's undergraduate student population benefits from student scholarships and financial aid.

Chatham University's endowed scholarship funds provided more than $1 million in support to students during the 2019-2020 academic year. However, Chatham awards more than $14 million in financial aid and scholarships annually. More than ever, new scholarship dollars are essential to providing an affordable and accessible education to these students.

A named endowed scholarship can be created with a gift of $50,000, payable over five years. If you would like to learn more about establishing an endowed fund at Chatham, please email Amanda Kile, Assistant Vice President of Development or call 412-365-1349.

Class of 1962 Scholarship Challenge

The Class of 1962 has provided a generous challenge to the Chatham community–they collectively donated $300,000 in honor of their 50th class reunion–with the goal of inspiring others to create new endowed scholarships for worthy students. They will provide matching support to inspire other alumnae/i to create their own endowed scholarships.

How It Works

  1. A donor (or group of classmates) gives $30,000 for a need-based endowed scholarship, named by the donor(s) and paid over a period of up to five years ($6,000 per year);
  2. The Class of 1962 Scholarship Fund provides the additional $20,000 to fully endow the scholarship to the $50,000 level;
  3. Each of the 15 scholarships remain a part of the Class of 1962 Scholarship Challenge Fund program and the student recipients will be known as Class of 1962 Scholars. Both the donor(s) and the Class of 1962 receive recognition in perpetuity for this generous gift;
  4. Everyone receives updates on their student scholarship recipients each year.

There are a limited number of Class of 1962 scholarships available. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, please contact Dana DePasquale, Director of Individual Giving, ddepasquale@chatham.edu or (412) 365-1517.

Expendable Student Scholarships

Support a student through their four years at Chatham by creating a named, expendable scholarship. Expendable scholarships provide an invaluable source of immediate financial support for our students. You’ll receive an update annually on the student who benefitted from your generosity.

An annual commitment of $2,500 a year for four years creates an expendable scholarship and supports one student through the entirety of their education. You can establish a scholarship individually or with one or more classmates. Set up a recurring annual scholarship payment using our secure online giving form or contact Dana DePasquale, Director of Individual Giving, at 412-365-1517 or ddepasquale@chatham.edu.

Other Endowed Opportunities

Growing the endowment is an ongoing priority for Chatham University. Chatham's endowment consists of multiple, separate funds that generate income in perpetuity. Only the interest and appreciation earned is used for current programs and services, ensuring the permanent existence of these funds.

In total, Chatham University has more than 190 endowed funds. A substantial portion of the Chatham University endowment assists the general operating budget each year by providing funds for such critical areas as student scholarships, faculty endowments, program endowments, and funds to support the maintenance of the University’s historic properties.

If you are interested in establishing an endowed fund at Chatham, please email Amanda Kile, Assistant Vice President of Development or call 412-365-1349.

A planned gift provides an opportunity for you to integrate a charitable gift into your overall financial, tax and estate plan.

The Dilworth Society

The Dilworth Society was established during Chatham's 125th year to recognize those who wish to remember Chatham University in their estate planning. These plans—such as bequests, trusts or life income gifts—provide a legacy that benefit both Chatham and the donor. The Society is named for Joseph Dilworth, one of Chatham's founders and Board of Trustees member, whose bequest for $10,000 established the building fund for the original Dilworth Hall. For more information, please contact Dana DePasquale, Director of Individual Giving, ddepasquale@chatham.edu or (412) 365-1517.
